DreamWorks Animation: Journey from Sketch to Screen

The DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition opened April 10th at the Australia Centre for the Moving Image as part of the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series.

It features over 400 items including never before seen concept drawings, models, original artworks and interviews plus various interactive experiences through out the exhibition.

Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO and co-founder of DreamWorks Animation spoke at the launch on April 9th about the ideas of the studio and history of how it was founded. And the magic from starting with one single sketch to a full length animated feature.

The exhibition is broken up into parts from the first idea to the final project. It features works from Shrek, Kung-Fu Panda, Rise of the Guardians, Madagascar to How to Train Your Dragon, The Croods and the recent Mr. Peabody and Sherman

It was very inspirational to see concept art and the development sketches of characters and landscape ideas. There is so much talent and skill put into each step of the creation process.

The exhibition is showing now at ACMI until October 5th.
